Hydroforming

In 2016 I open-sourced my hydroforming technique. Since it has both been adopted by makers world-wide and has been improved upon by makers worldwide. Notably, Pantheon Steel, Symphonic Steel, and Meridian handpans still use this method while Yshama was the first to successfully build a hydroforming machine off of my initial designs.

CFoulke

I spent my first three years mastering the basics through 100% hands-on production, producing 50 instruments under my name, CFoulke. I used air hammers and basic tools to craft instruments that were regarded as Top Shelf by Handpan.org.

3 Hammer Challenge

In 2018 and 2019 I abandoned all my tools, picked 3 hammers, and made a handpan, 100% by hand. I documented the torment for the community’s enjoyment. Much to my surprise, many have used these videos as introductory handpan making lessons.

The Æther

The Æther was an instrument that was in production from 2015-2021. It was made using my hydroforming shell production method. Originally it was 20" in diameter, then 21" and ended at 21.5". The Æther showed that a high-quality instrument could be made from a hydroformed shell and paved the way for makers around the world to adopt hydroforming as a viable shell production method. It was a great joy and a deep dedication to produce the Æther.

Free Tutorials & DVDs

From 2010-2012 I published free online handpan tutorials featuring tricks, tips, and full composition breakdowns.

David Kuckhermann and I recorded the first handpan DVD tutorial series in 2012. We then both went on to release their individual advanced DVD series in 2013.

LinoTune

London 2010, I was fortunate enough to be sitting at the dinner table where the idea for Linotune was sparked. In 2012, I recorded the tutorial for Linotune, the most widely used handpan tuning software.

TEDx

On December 3, 2019, I was a featured performer at a TEDx event in Orange County, California (the county I grew up in). The TEDx event focused on “Ideas Empowered.”

The RADIX

The RADIX was an instrument that was in production for the year 2020. It was an opportunity to explore alternative shell production methods, deep-drawn shells in this case, that could be outsourced. While it is a very viable way to produce handpans, I have decided to peruse other production methods. The RADIX paved the way to the Xenith.

HCU

I am a founding member and the official spokesperson for Handpan Community United, an international non-profit organization with one main focus: To safeguard and protect the growing international handpan community through the commitment to preserve the playing, fabrication, availability, and the further development of the handpan musical instrument.

Temperaments

In 2020, I partnered with Mark Deutsch and Alan Tower to answer the questions, “What’s the deal with Temperaments?” What followed was a blind poll of three instruments in the same scale and three different tuning temperaments.
